AI Usage Policy

FLUENCY: Jurnal Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris recognizes the increasing use of Artificial Intelligence (AI), generative AI, and other AI-assisted tools in research, academic writing, and English language education.

FLUENCY permits the responsible use of AI tools while maintaining academic integrity, transparency, and human responsibility for all scholarly work.

Authors

Authors may use AI tools for limited and appropriate purposes, including:

  • grammar and language correction;
  • improvement of clarity and readability;
  • translation assistance; • transcription assistance;
  • coding or programming assistance; and
  • other research-support activities where appropriate.

Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, integrity, and scholarly content of their manuscripts.

AI tools must not be used to fabricate or falsify data, findings, references, or evidence, manipulate research results, conceal plagiarism, or replace the authors' intellectual contribution and scholarly judgment.

Disclosure of AI Use

Authors should disclose the use of AI tools when AI has made a substantive contribution to the research process, data analysis, or preparation of the manuscript.

The disclosure should identify the AI tool used and briefly explain its purpose and role in the research or manuscript preparation.

Routine use of basic spelling or grammar checking does not require detailed disclosure when it does not materially affect the intellectual content of the manuscript.

AI and Authorship

AI tools, including generative AI systems, cannot be listed as authors or co-authors.

Authorship remains limited to individuals who have made substantial contributions to the research and manuscript and who can take responsibility for the published work.

AI Use by Reviewers

Reviewers must maintain the confidentiality of manuscripts and review materials.

Reviewers must not upload, paste, or otherwise disclose confidential manuscript content to publicly accessible AI or generative AI tools unless the editorial office has explicitly authorized such use and appropriate confidentiality and data protection can be guaranteed.

AI tools must not replace the reviewer's independent scholarly judgment.

AI Use by Editors

Editors must maintain the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts, reviewer reports, and other unpublished editorial materials.

AI tools must not replace human editorial judgment or be used as the sole basis for editorial decisions.

Accuracy and Verification

AI-generated or AI-assisted outputs may contain errors, fabricated information, inappropriate citations, bias, or other inaccuracies.

Authors, reviewers, and editors are responsible for critically evaluating and verifying AI-assisted outputs before relying on them.

Any substantive information, references, quotations, translations, analysis, or research findings produced or assisted by AI must be appropriately checked and verified.

Research Integrity

Undisclosed or inappropriate use of AI that results in fabrication, falsification, plagiarism, manipulation of evidence, or other forms of academic misconduct may constitute a violation of FLUENCY's publication ethics.

Where concerns arise regarding the use of AI, the editorial team may request clarification or additional information from the authors or other parties involved.

Depending on the nature and seriousness of the violation, the journal may reject a manuscript, request revision, or take appropriate post-publication action.
